"For it to be preserved, the world must recognize its importance."

Shuttle loom weaving, like tiles and ceramic, occupies a place of distinction in the history of artisanal crafts. Our treasured shuttle looms have been passed down from generation to generation, with the oldest one being over 100-years-old.

Turquoise Istanbul towels are made by weavers in Southern Turkey who have been using the same time honored techniques and traditional, wooden shuttle looms for centuries.

Every piece we sell can be traced back to a family workshop and is guaranteed to be made with 100% certified organic Turkish cotton GOTS. Aside from the environmental benefits, organic cotton is more absorbent, dries faster, remains soft, and is better at reducing moisture-induced bacteria, which means your products will never smell musty.

A lot of towels are produced on factory machines using inferior quality cotton or synthetic fibers. The speed and size of the machines means that the threads need to be coated in starch and wax to prevent them breaking during production. The final product will not absorb water as well and only lasts a few years when compared with Turquoise Istanbul’s, which last at least 20 years.

Each and every product represents the unique quality work of a professional textile artisan. Turquoise Istanbul gives them a stage from which to share their stories, an ability to grow and the opportunity to better their lives and communities. All our products are unique and handcrafted, and our artisans apply their passion by creating pieces with meaning.

Our products are made with 100% organic certified cotton. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibre. It defines high level environmental criteria along the entire organic textile supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
